Life after West Nile virus: Ontario families call for more awareness at height of mosquito season

In rare cases, West Nile virus can cause West Nile neuroinvasive disease. André Gagné and his wife Lorraine have been learning to adapt after he was bit by an infected mosquito in August 2024.

With the arrival of mosquito season, health officials are reminding residents to protect themselves against West Nile virus. While most people experience flu-like symptoms or no symptoms at all, some people do experience severe illness, or death. Residents whose lives have been impacted by the virus believe there should be more public awareness.
