The Runways Spoke: Trendy Purple, Red & Teal Make The Best Color Combos

New York Fashion Week has come and gone in a beautiful blur, but something that’s still stuck in our brains is the vibrant color combos that took over many shows (and even the street style looks outside of them).

As we were on the ground, the Refinery29 team quickly began to notice that several shades of purple took over the Spring/Summer 2027 runways (and the occasional fall collections). Then it was bold reds… then it was a range of aqua shades, from already-trending teal to deeper turquoise. Then, we realized that these three colors were often being combined for super dynamic looks.

While many designers stuck to one of these statement-making colors in their collections, others had purple and red combos (Tory Burch, Zankov, Christian Cowan, Eckhaus Latta, Conner Ives, Kate Barton, 7 For All Mankind), red and teal (Aknvas, Diane von Furstenberg, Conner Ives), or teal and purple (Retrofête, Tory Burch).

From Zankov’s purple-and-red color-blocked patterns and separates, and Aknvas‘ teal parkas with dainty red flower prints, to Tory Burch’s purple coat paired with a teal cocktail dress and matching scarf, the contrasting colors and unique styling choices made a big impact on us.

Ahead, see our favorite trendy purple, red, and teal NYFW looks, and shop styles with these color combos already integrated into them. Then go on and create your own statement looks off the runway. Because, as many of the shows’ stylish attendees proved, you don’t have to wait until spring to start incorporating fun colors into your closet!

NYFW Spring 2027 Color Trend: Purple

Purple was no doubt the biggest color trend on the NYFW Spring/Summer 2027 runways. Well over 20 collections featured the color in a range of bright violets, deep berries, soft lavenders, and borderline indigos. It was predominantly worn on its own since it’s already so eye-catching, but purple and red outfits really proved to be the most prominent and pleasantly unexpected color combo.

Dip your feet into the purple waters with accessories like cocktail rings, handbags, or tights. (Christian Cowan and Kim Shui notably both styled their models in purple tights with garters while 7 For All Mankind featured deep purple shoulder bags and platform pumps.) Or, you can dive right in with an all-over purple maxi dress, overcoat, or sweater. (I’m personally reaching for my purple drawstring pants and purple printed skirt this fall.) Then add touches of red or aqua with accessories, from turquoise-stone necklaces to red scarves.

NYFW Spring 2027 Color Trend: Red

Red will consistently be a go-to color when you want to make a statement, no matter the season or the year. It isn’t strictly reserved for holiday sweaters or red carpet looks (though, many NYFW designers did present sultry red gowns with feathers, lace, sequins, ruffles, and even zebra prints). These designers also made a case for wearing red across collared tops, skirts, jackets, bralettes, sweatsuits, and belts for all types of occasions.

To spice up your red outfit, consider a red midi dress or sweater with a purple cardigan draped over your shoulders. Or go more subtle. Take inspo from designers like Sergio Hudson, Diane von Furstenberg, and Aknvas who chose to punctuate their colorful looks with red shoes, including stiletto heels, pumps, and loafers. So it may be time to get to shoe shopping!

NYFW Spring 2027 Color Trend: Teal

Sure, there were baby blues, navy, olive, sage, and lime greens across the Spring/Summer 2027 runways. But the vivid additions of aqua, teal, turquoise, and seafoam really stood out… and drew us in. The pop of color was often joyful and unexpected, whether showing up on a head-to-toe suit, sporty windbreaker, and trendy capris or accessories like handbags, scarves, and pearl necklaces.

Since this summer, “turquoise and tomato” has been a particularly trendy color combo that’s gained traction on social media. And the runways continued to roll with it. Conner Ives and Aknvas made teal the star of several looks, with the addition of a red print or layering piece. Meanwhile, Retrofête and Tory Burch combined teal and purple through contrasting lace trims and outerwear. To get this look, opt for deeper turquoise and amethyst jewel tones in the fall and winter, or brighter teal and violet in the spring and summer.
