‘Arc de Trump’ to hold military drones and snipers, Trump claims

President Donald Trump has said that he plans to use his proposed Triumphal Arch in Washington, D.C., as a “military complex.” This marks the second time Trump has sought to use national security grounds to build a controversial project, following his proposed ballroom on the site of the former White House East Wing. 

Trump’s plans mean the arch would be capable of deploying drones and accommodating snipers. The president claimed that the measures came at the request of the U.S. Military.

In response, Democratic Rep. Don Beyer has called on the FAA to undertake a safety analysis of the measures which Beyer said were required given the arch’s proximity to Reagan Washington National Airport. Beyer further called the plans “stupid, dangerous, and unworkable.”
