Best new architecture by Canadian architects honored by RAIC

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts have revealed the winners of the 2026 Governor General’s Medals in Architecture.   The biennial awards recognize outstanding projects recently completed by Canadian architects.

The 11 winning schemes range from a residential design to a fire station. The awards also come after the RAIC unveiled a series of award winners in March, including the RAIC Gold Medal.

“Architecture shapes the everyday experience of Canadians and leaves a lasting legacy for future generations,” said Jonathan Bisson, President of the RAIC. “This year’s recipients remind us that the most enduring architecture is measured not only by its form but by its contribution to people, communities, and culture. Their work reflects a remarkable diversity of places, voices, and aspirations, while advancing a common vision of a built environment that is more inclusive, resilient, and connected to its context.”
