Jeddah Tower surpasses 430-meter construction milestone, on track to becoming world’s tallest building

Engineer John Peronto, managing principal at Thornton Tomasetti and project manager for the Jeddah Tower, told Newsweek that the team is pushing “very aggressively” toward completing the upper observation level around the 160th floor, known as the "sky terrace." He said the project is roughly “60 weeks out” from reaching that point, describing it as a “major milestone” expected in the near future.

Work on the long-stalled Jeddah Tower project appears to be moving forward in full swing now, several news outlets report. The megatall skyscraper is on track again not only to take the crown of the world's tallest building (by quite a margin, sorry, Burj Khalifa) but also to surpass the 1-kilometer (3,281-foot) mark.

In a social media post earlier this week, Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal claims that the current height has now surpassed 430 meters (1,411 feet), having completed the 107th floor and 43% structural progress overall. 

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture designed the tower, with Thornton Tomasetti as engineering partner.
