Kéré completes timber childcare center with slides as circulation at the Technical University of Munich

Kéré Architecture has completed the Kinderoase at the Technical University Munich, a five-story timber daycare center that marks the practice’s first completed project in Europe. The project broke ground in April 2024.

Located on the university’s main campus, the 15,000-square-foot facility accommodates up to 60 children. Designed as a vertical kindergarten, the project aims to support students and university staff, particularly women pursuing academic careers, by providing childcare close to the workplace.

The building occupies a constrained site on a former parking lot between the university’s main campus and its cafeteria. Reception and administrative spaces are located on the ground floor, while children are organized by age across the upper levels.
