MIT Museum to become largest holder of I. M. Pei archive

The MIT Museum has announced the transfer of the project archive of I. M. Pei from Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, a move that will establish the institution as the largest repository of the architect’s work worldwide. Pei earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1940.

The archive spans more than six decades of Pei’s career and includes approximately 1,500 rolls of architectural drawings, 50 architectural models, and 1,000 linear feet of manuscripts and related materials documenting more than 60 projects.

Among the materials are drawings and documents from some of Pei’s best-known works, including the Louvre Museum modernization project in Paris, the John F.
