Snarkitecture's massive PLAYGROUND installation is now open for fun at the National Building Museum

Snarkitecture has completed THE PLAYGROUND, a 14,000-square-foot interactive installation at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The scheme is described by the museum as its largest indoor installation to date.

Developed in collaboration with design studio Gluten (ZGF Architects is the architect of record) and conceived as a reinterpretation of the traditional playground, the installation uses construction materials including scaffolding, birch plywood, cork, rope, and recycled flooring to create an immersive environment that encourages self-directed exploration rather than prescribed routes or activities. The project is organized into nine distinct zones designed for climbing, building, recreation, and informal gathering.
