UC Berkeley appoints Nicholas de Monchaux as next dean of College of Environmental Design

The University of California, Berkeley has appointed Nicholas de Monchaux as the next dean of the College of Environmental Design (CED). De Monchaux, an architect, urbanist, and scholar, will assume the role on July 1, 2027.
Currently head of the Department of Architecture at MIT, de Monchaux serves as a professor of architecture and professor of urban studies and planning. His appointment marks a return to UC Berkeley, where he previously taught architecture and urban design between 2006 and 2019.
During his previous tenure at Berkeley, de Monchaux served as director of the Berkeley Center for New Media and held the Craigslist Distinguished Chair in New Media. At MIT, he co-founded the Local Code Lab, a research initiative focused on digital urbanism and computational approaches to cities and design.
