Yale reappoints Deborah Berke as architecture school dean

Deborah Berke has been reappointed as dean of the Yale School of Architecture. Berke will begin her third five-year term on July 1, 2026.
“Over the past decade, Dean Berke has deeply influenced the direction of architectural education at Yale and demonstrated a particular commitment to expanding the School of Architecture’s connections to Yale College and the other graduate and professional schools,” President Maurie McInnis and Provost Scott Strobel said in a joint statement announcing the news.

During Berke’s tenure so far, the school has launched an undergraduate major in urban studies, which the school says has given undergraduates the opportunity to connect with students in the Master of Architecture program. Berke has also overseen projects that link students and faculty with local communities through affordable housing and historic preservation efforts.
