This is a great opportunity to pick up one of two fan-fave Kindles (and one of my personal favorites), the 11th-Gen Kindle 16GB, as well as 16GB and 64GB models of the Kindle Scribe 10.2-inch. The sale runs until April 11, but the extra 25% off code is only valid today. Stock is also limited across all available models and could sell out before the sale ends, so if you want one, be sure to grab it before the deals disappear. Note that Woot normally charges for shipping, but since it is an Amazon-owned company, Prime members can get free standard shipping on all orders. Paid Two-day and One-day shipping options are also available. Shipping is only available within the continental US (sorry, Hawai'i and Alaska). Amazon Kindle Scribe 10.2-inch with Premium Pen Starts at $150 (was $200) This is probably my favorite Kindle, if I'm being honest. At 10.2 inches, it's got a luxuriously large display, but it's still super lightweight, lighter than any full-size tablet. The note-taking feature is the real star of the show. With the included stylus, you can write notes in a separate notes app, or annotate your books as you read them, and the experience of using the stylus feels remarkably like writing on paper with a pencil. It's quick, responsive, and such a joy to use. Woot's sale has the 16GB ($150 with discount code) and 64GB models available ($187.50). See 16GB model at Woot See 64GB model at Woot Amazon Kindle 16GB (2022 Release, 11th Gen) Refurbished $45 with discount code (normally $110) It's a crowd favorite for a reason. The 2022 Kindle is currently Amazon's most affordable e-reader, featuring adjustable front lighting, ridiculous battery life, and a nice, lightweight feel in the hand. It's a great pick if you're just looking for a basic e-reader to toss in your bag or take on the road. No bells, no whistles, just reliable performance. Note that this is a refurbished model, meaning it's been used before. Woot lists it as "Scratch & Dent" quality, meaning you may notice some minor wear on the surface (which is why it's so much cheaper than a new full-price model), but otherwise it's in full working condition. For a limited time, you can save on Bandai's line of collectible Pokemon Nanoblock figures at Best Buy. The miniaturized, block versions of our favorite pocket monsters are adorable recreations of their digital counterparts. Almost all of the 'Mons on offer are discounted between $2 and $8 per figure. For example, you can grab the Bulbasaur and Squirtle Nanoblocks for $6 each (were $14). Both are 120-piece kits, so putting them together won't steal too much time away from your Pokemon Pokopia obsession. Note that some discounted figures are already sold out, including the Charmander and Pikachu Nanoblocks. That said, restocks are possible, so it's a good idea to refresh the page every now and then, especially since the sold-out figures are still discounted. There's a Pokemon Nanoblock figure for almost everyone. Not every type is represented, and some of the more iconic Pokemon are missing from this catalog, but the ones available are still pretty good. For example, the 160-piece Lucario is available for $6 (was $14). It stands almost three inches tall and is the perfect little fighting-type desk companion. For something a little larger, the Mega Charizard Y Nanoblock set is on sale for $6 (was $14). This kit is larger than most of the other discounted Nanoblocks, with 200 pieces and an impressive wingspan. Continue Reading at GameSpot
One Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 performer felt confident enough that the RPG would be a success that they bet someone at the game's publisher 33 baguettes that it would sell 1 million copies in a week. That ended up happening, and now the voice actor, Aliona Baranova, wants her bread. At Emerald City Comic Con 2026, Baranova said she "knew" that Expedition 33 would be a hit. She raised the stakes, too, with a bread bet. "I made a bet with someone called Jack who's on the Kepler [Interactive] publishing team that it would sell a million copies in the first week. I made a bet and the bet was to win 33 baguettes. Jack, where are my baguettes?" she said, as reported by GamesRadar. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Fortnite is known as much for its paid cosmetics as it is for having arguably the best Battle Royale modes around. But these days, Fortnite offers so many free cosmetics at any given time that it's easier than ever to enjoy it without dropping a penny on skins, emotes, or other cosmetics. In Chapter 7, there are free items to unlock for every Epic-created mode, so you don't have to give up on collecting Fortnite cosmetics even if you're feeling the pain caused by the V-Buck price increase. With so much free stuff, it's not always easy to tell what is available to unlock, since there's no "here's all the free stuff you can earn" page in Fortnite itself. Scroll on to find out what exactly you can get, and what modes you'll need to play or, in some cases, what websites you'll need to make accounts for. Chapter 7 Season 2 battle pass free items The Chapter 7 Season 2 battle pass, which runs until June 17, includes 27 items that you can earn for free by leveling up without buying the pass, as well as 300 V-Bucks that can be used in the item shop or put toward buying the battle pass, Lego pass, OG pass, or music pass. Many of the items are minor cosmetics like sprays, emoticons, loading screens, and banner icons. Highlights: Fishstick Pincushion back bling Bugs' Mailbox pickaxe Jules' Tech Board glider Victory Catch pickaxe New Classic Plasmaboard glider Cold's Cruel Bloom pickaxe Gauntlet Greeting emote Cat-Cat-Kaboom back bling Strong Foundation weapon wrap Elite Ohm back bling Bobber Dropper contrail Foundation Faller contrail Showdown The battle royale storyline in Chapter 7 Season 2 involves a battle between the Ice King and the Foundation, with players forced to choose a side the first time they log in this season. There is also an additional set of quests related to this faceoff, but you'll need to log in on the Fortnite Showdown website to activate it. Once you've done so, you can complete a new quest each week for a new cosmetic. The quests are the kinds of things you'll likely complete naturally by playing, like getting eliminations and surviving storm circles, and players seem to be able to gain progress even on the quests that haven't unlocked yet. These rewards are available to earn through April 16. The items: Week 1: Rivaled Runner kicks (get 50 kills) Week 2: Goofyfoot Flail pickaxe (survive 30 circles) Week 3: Enticing Pie Emote (win one round of BR) Week 4: Eagle's Talons pickaxe Music Pass The Chappell Roan music pass includes nine free items that you can earn without buying the pass by leveling up in any Fortnite experience. Any car body or accessory can be pulled from those crates, in theory. Rocket Pass Like Fortnite's passes, the Rocket Pass also includes a variety of free items. Many of these items aren't the types of things that have an equivalent in Fortnite, like car toppers. But the Season 22 Rocket Pass, which runs until March 11, includes a set of wheels and a boost trail. You must play Rocket League to make progress on the Rocket Pass. Items: Gold Band wheels Demigodly trail Rocket League tournaments Participating in Rocket League tournaments and getting wins earns points that can be used to open loot crates that contain random cosmetics. With the Switch 2 nearing its first anniversary, more products have been unveiled that add new functionality. One is the Genki Covert Dock 3, a handy and portable dock that works with the Switch 2 and lets you connect to a TV without carrying the bulky original dock. Available now and priced at $77, it can handle the beefier Switch 2 hardware, and it's compatible with handheld gaming PCs. If you're someone who travels often and you'd like to enjoy some big-screen gaming with your Switch 2 when you stop at a hotel, then this device is highly recommended. Essentially, Genki's dock allows you to use your Switch 2 in docked mode without having to worry about cable clutter. It's equipped with an HDMI 2.1 port that allows it to transmit up to 4K 120fps video to a screen, and it also supports HDR and variable refresh rate (VRR). That's a significant improvement over the previous model--which could handle up to 4K 60fps footage--and the USB-C port charges at up to 65W, so if you want to hook an Xbox ROG Ally X, it has more than enough power under the hood to do so. All you need is an HDMI cable and a power outlet with your handheld and the covert dock, and you're good to go. Continue Reading at GameSpot

State of Decay 3 has been missing in action from several Xbox livestreams and game showcases for years now, but at long last, the threequel has resurfaced, and developer Undead Labs has announced that it'll be hosting an alpha test for the zombie apocalypse survival game. Sign-ups are now live for the State of Decay 3 alpha, and Undead Labs also posted a new video showing off teasing the long-in-development title. The alpha playtest will kick off in May, and participants can expect four-player co-op, new base-building and resource strategies, and plenty of combat. "If scavenging supplies in the middle of a zombie outbreak sounds fun to you, then grab your ruck, pack some mags, and register for a chance to be included in the alpha," State of Decay co-creator Brant Fitzgerald said, while adding that there will be more opportunities throughout the year to test out the game. State of Decay 3 was first announced in 2020, and updates on the game have been sporadic over the last six years. Earlier this year, head of Xbox Game Studios Craig Duncan said that the game is "coming on really well," and that he'd made several visits to Undead Labs recently. This new look at State of Decay 3 comes at a time when Xbox is undergoing big changes behind the scenes, which began with the departure of Phil Spencer and the announcement that Asha Sharma would take over his role as Microsoft Gaming CEO. Naughty Dog's Uncharted series sold millions of copies across multiple installments, but the main franchise has been dormant since 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End brought Nathan Drake's story seemingly to a close. Now, however, fans are theorizing that Naughty Dog might be returning to the franchise, thanks in part to a vague post from Naughty Dog creative director Shaun Escayg. A vague Instagram photo from February of a cannon in a tropical environment that is captioned "research" is now making the rounds. People are theorizing that Escayg went to Fort George at Trinidad and Tobago to help research a new Uncharted game. It's rumored that merchants stored records and valuables at Fort George, further fueling the connection to Uncharted. Nothing is certain, of course, and Escayg might have been referencing pretty much anything with his post, or nothing at all. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Seemingly everything but Costco hot dogs has increased in cost recently, and one former Nintendo retail lead believes that a Switch 2 price hike is "inevitable." Speaking on the Kit & Krysta podcast--a series run by former Nintendo employees--the man known only as "Sean" suggested that Nintendo's decision to charge less for its downloadable games will help to soften the backlash if and when it decides to increase how much its hardware costs. "Unfortunately, I think eventually the hardware price is going to have to go up," Sean said. "I think that there are things that they can and seem to be doing to try and mitigate that, but I also look at this move on on software as--if I'm reading it correctly--a way to make a hardware price increase a little bit more palatable. We've seen inflation being a problem for a while now. Tariffs are a more recent nuisance, but they're not going away anytime soon. The demand that AI is causing for chips is causing memory prices to go up, and within the past couple of weeks, we have issues with oil prices going through the roof." Sean added that other factors, like an increase in the price of helium--a vital component in the production of semiconductors and a resource that is becoming increasingly finite--will only exacerbate current challenges. While Nintendo can tackle thinner hardware profit margins with merchandising, Sean added that the company may have no option but to increase Switch 2 hardware prices because of external factors, no matter what steps it takes to avoid doing so. A former Rockstar Games developer has said they would be shocked if GTA 6 does not borrow some ideas from the studio's previous game, Red Dead Redemption 2. Appearing on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, former audio designer Rob Carr--who worked on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption II--said his evidence is that Rockstar already did this. GTA 5, for example, borrowed the Dead Eye system from the original Red Dead, Carr said. "They used the Dead Eye as one of the perks for one of the characters. You've got the Dead Eye thing that Michael used, I think you've got the slow-mo driving thing for Franklin, and the basically berserker mode for Trevor," Carr said (via GamesRadar). The VR game arrives that day for $25 for Meta Quest, Steam VR, and Pico. Instead of following up Gears 5 with a proper sequel, the franchise's next game is going back in time with Gears of War: E-Day. But that hasn't stopped JD Fenix voice actor Liam McIntyre from sharing his story ideas for a potential Gears of War 6. Posting on X, McIntyre claimed that "there was a suggestion" that Gears developer The Coalition would make Gears 6, but the studio "wanted to try something new." Even so, McIntyre stated that the forthcoming Gears of War: E-Day "looks great" and he can't wait to play it. When prompted by a reply addressing the ending of Gears 5, McIntyre shared how he would approach the story from there. Spoilers for Gears 5 follow, if you don't know about the ending over six years after its release. Protagonist Kait Diaz is forced to choose between saving JD or her wingman Del Walker, with the other meeting a brutal demise at the hands of Swarm Queen Reyna. It's unclear which branch is canon to Gears lore or how a sequel would accommodate player choices, but McIntyre's "solve" is making Del's survival canon, the Swarm reviving and possessing JD, and a rogue Marcus Fenix having to face his zombie-fied son. The horror game Dead by Daylight is coming up on its 10th anniversary, and with the milestone on the horizon, developer Behaviour Interactive has told fans there are no plans for a numbered sequel. Dead by Daylight is a live-service game, and while the team did consider a sequel or some kind of new version of Dead by Daylight over the years, it never made sense to actually do it. Creative director Dave Richard told IGN that fans have invested time and money into Dead by Daylight, and launching a sequel "never makes sense for the fans. Never ever." Head of partnerships Mathieu Cote, meanwhile, said Behaviour wants to bring Dead by Daylight "kicking and screaming" into the next decade of its existence. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Actor Jack Black is a big fan of video games, and specifically Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption series, and he thinks it's too bad that there hasn't been a Red Dead movie yet. Speaking to Polygon, Black said it's a "shame" that Rockstar isn't making a Red Dead movie because the games are "the most cinematic" and would seemingly lend themselves nicely to a big-screen adaptation. "It would be, like, too easy to make them into great movies," he said, adding that he would love to be in a Red Dead movie if anyone asked him. "Hey Housers? Dan, Sam, I'm waiting for your call," he said, referencing the Rockstar founder brothers. Dan Houser left Rockstar in 2020 to start a new company, Absurd Ventures. Sam Houser remains at Rockstar and is its current president. Continue Reading at GameSpot
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hit theaters on April 1, and it's putting up huge numbers right out of the gate. The animated film brought in $34.5 million in the US for its opening day, which is good for the biggest opening day so far in 2026, outpacing Project Hail Mary ($33.1 million). It's also the highest opening for a movie that opened on a Wednesday in April in US history, beating a record set by April 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($31.7 million), according to Deadline. Internationally, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie made $33.9 million from 78 markets on April 1 to boost its global haul out of the gate to $68.4 million, according to Variety. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is finally here, and regardless of how critics feel about it, one thing is certain: It's going to make an astronomical amount of money. But that doesn't answer the real question of if Nintendo's latest film endeavor is actually worth seeing, does it? While I could offer my two cents on the matter, I noticed when doing my own research on the film that there was a distinct lack of reviews from one of the film's target demographics: kids. Granted, this is largely due to writing competency issues and child labor laws, both of which are extremely fair reasons, but this lack also presented me with an exciting opportunity. Rather than give you my take on the film, I decided to ask my Mario-enthusiast son what he thought about it. For background, my kid, unsurprisingly, loves video games. At this point, I think half of my paycheck is just funneled over to Nintendo. He adores Pokemon and Pikmin and has the plushies to prove it, but above all else, he adores the Mario brothers and their various adventures. Continue Reading at GameSpot
After 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie made a billion dollars, fans theorized that Wario should be in the next movie and that Danny DeVito should voice him. Even DeVito himself said he wanted to voice Wario, going on to joke that he would demand a high fee. Charlie Day, who plays Luigi, told ScreenRant that his "dream casting pick" for Wario would be DeVito, his It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star. "Danny would fit so well in this universe, and he would be a good Wario, I think," Day said. Wario was not in The Super Mario Bros. Movie or the newly released The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The latest movie is already breaking records at the box office, and many believe a third entry in the series is not a question of it, but when. Could Wario show up in a potential third animated Mario movie? It sure seems possible, but nothing is set as of yet. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Super Battle Golf, the chaotic arcade-style golf game where everyone plays at the same time, is getting a new update on April 9 that adds new holes, a new game mechanic, and more items to dial up the mayhem even further. The Frozen Fairway update adds the snow biome, featuring nine new holes set in chilly locations. The holes are themed around winter, so players can expect icy terrain and slippery conditions to make hitting the golf ball more challenging. Additionally, nine more holes are being added to existing maps. In terms of new mechanics, the Frozen Fairway update introduces wind to the mix. Like in real life, players will need to change their strategies based on wind speed and direction. There are two new items in the update that players can use to save themselves or sabotage others, including the Rocket Driver and the Freeze Bomb. Continue Reading at GameSpot

On March 25, 2013, Digital Extremes launched a free-to-play sci-fi action title called Warframe, putting players in the roles of the Tenno, fighting against interstellar evils across the galaxy. What started with humble beginnings has now grown into one of the most successful live-service games on the market, and after celebrating Warframe's 13th birthday, and with its new sibling, Soulframe, Digital Extremes wants to prove it still has plenty to offer its fans. GameSpot sat down with Warframe community director Megan Everett at PAX East 2026, just after she completed a Warframe- and Soulframe-focused panel on the main stage. We spoke about the new Shadowgrapher update, Warframe's jump to Nintendo Switch 2, the studio's stance on generative AI, and more. Enter the Shadowgrapher The latest Warframe update adds a new playable character to the mix in Follie, an imposing figure who uses inks and paints as weapons in battle. The limited-time game mode introduced with her, Follie's Hunt, forces players into a 4v1 showdown with Follie that invokes similar feelings to horror title Dead by Daylight or other similar asymmetric multiplayer games. Season 3 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone is loaded with new content across all modes, and the big update also comes bundled with additional anti-cheat protections. Activision's latest Ricochet anti-cheat blog reveals an additional crackdown on unapproved third-party hardware and new verification requirements for new accounts on PC. Last season, Call of Duty's Ricochet anti-cheat detections received upgrades designed to target unapproved third-party hardware, such as the Cronus Zen and XIM Matrix devices that could be used to alter player inputs and offer an unfair advantage. Season 3's update continues the fight against those third-party detections with an evolved detection system. "Our detections focus on how inputs behave during gameplay, not just which device is plugged in. This allows us to identify patterns that fall outside expected human play, even as device setups change," the publisher explained. "With Season 3, we are expanding our detection systems that target these tools." Continue Reading at GameSpot
Fox McCloud is probably better known as a Super Smash Bros. fighter than the protagonist of the Star Fox franchise these days, but last week saw two unexpected developments for the anthropomorphic hero: 1) Glen Powell announced he voices Fox in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and 2) There's a reported Star Fox game coming out soon for Switch 2 . According to the Star Fox leak, the upcoming game will supposedly feature "classic-style" action. In other words, it will play like Star Fox 64 and be an on-rails shooter. That's fine and dandy, but I'd argue Nintendo needs to take a different flight path with this new Star Fox. Rather than retread old territory, this rumored Switch 2 game should look to Hades 2 for inspiration, as the critically acclaimed roguelite best exemplifies how to mix story with replayability--two things Fox and his flight crew's upcoming adventure to take out Andross will need. Though this might seem like a departure from the original Star Fox, Star Fox 64 already incorporated roguelite aspects, as saving Slippy in a level could lead to alternate pathways through the Lylat System. Plus, the arcade nature of the 1997 title leads to a very short playtime to complete, something that arguably would be deemed unacceptable today--especially if Nintendo charges a premium price of $70. So let's get started with our roguelike recommendations for this new, but unofficial, Star Fox game. The Great Fox can act as a main hub, where Fox can chat with General Pepper about his overall mission before heading out in the Arwing. Obviously, this flagship will serve as an important location that Fox returns to whenever he gets shot down on his adventure. It'd be nice to maybe see Falco Lombardi, Peppy Hare, and Slippy Toad hanging out here, too. Maybe Fox can only choose one wingmate at a time, with each companion offering different power-ups or abilities on a run. For example, bringing along Falco ups your Arwing's firepower, while picking Peppy leads to more tactical debuffs on enemies. Continue Reading at GameSpot

We are shy of two weeks out from the launch of Crimson Desert, and while I personally have been enjoying my time with the game, I feel it has been one of the more egregious examples of a modern trend in gaming: titles releasing as 1.0 when they should be releasing as Early Access. Since the launch of Crimson Desert, the game has added a storage chest at the main hub for players to offload items they don’t want to carry, but also don’t want to lose. It’s added a bunch of fast travel points all over the map, including one at that main hub; before this, it took hours of gameplay to unlock a fast travel point, even if you were kind of close to that location. It’s also added new items known as Refinement Tokens, which allow players to quickly upgrade any low-level gear they come across to something more usable, without having to waste a bunch of resources in doing so. These aren’t little tweaks and fixes; these changes completely transform the experience of playing the game. Before digital releases and internet connectivity, patches were nearly impossible, especially on consoles. Once a game was out in the wild, that was pretty much it. No changes could be made; any issues with the game or exploits players could leverage were forever etched into that experience. Now, developers are able to make alterations weeks, months, or even years after a game’s release. I do lament the idea of things like Pokémon Red and Blue’s Missing No., or the backward long jump in Super Mario 64, being removed in update patches if those games were to have been released today. For the last couple of years, the Epic Games Store has given away free games every week through its PC storefront. With the company having launched its own mobile store, it has also started a second free games program on iOS and Android devices, kicking things off with a curated library of titles and weekly freebies. The app also features mobile versions of Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe. To access these games you will need to create a free Epic account and install the free Epic Games Store mobile app and log in with your account, but once you do, you can start claiming your free games every Thursday through it. One other thing to note is that Android users can access the app via Android-based emulation devices like Retroid Pocket, as they aren't limited to just smartphone and tablets. Download the Epic Games Store Mobile app For now, only iOS users in the European Union can install the app, but the app is available worldwide to Android device users and they have a wider selection of games to choose from in comparison. Like its PC counterpart, you'll have one week to grab each game that's offered. Here's a closer look at what you can grab this week, and what the current mobile games library has to offer. You can also explore what the free PC games are this week on the Epic Games Store. Continue Reading at GameSpot
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now in theaters, but don't call it a sequel to 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It was never designed to be a sequel to that film or a re-telling of Super Mario Galaxy the game. In an interview with Polygon, Illumination boss Chris Meledandri said the team kicked around ideas for a follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and some of the possibilities included a Super Mario World or Super Mario Odyssey movie. However, the qualities of Super Mario Galaxy--including the cinematic and dramatic opportunities--were "immediately exciting," he said. "Just the whole feeling of the drama that's associated with Rosalina as a character and how that's reflected in the music of Galaxy. That feeling was something we thought could really inform a new story," Meledandri said. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Call of Duty developer Raven Software's founder, Brian Raffel, is retiring from the company after 36 years leading the studio. Brian and his brother Steve (who himself retired in 2017) founded Raven in 1990, and while the studio today is most closely associated with Call of Duty, that's only a relatively recent change. Raven's first game was 1992's Black Crypt, a 3D realtime-style adventure game, which would be followed up by the shooter Heretic in 1994 and a sequel, Heretic II, in 1998. Raven then created the Soldier of Fortune shooter series in the early 2000s, before developing multiple Star Wars: Jedi Knight games with LucasArts. Raven also worked on multiple X-Men, Marvel, and Wolfenstein games. Activision would go on to buy Raven, with the Raffel brothers receiving more than 1 million shares of Activision stock as part of the deal. Raven began working on the Call of Duty series with 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops, contributing to the game's DLC, and the team has been focused on Call of Duty since. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Embark Studios released a bonafide hit in Arc Raiders, and its use of AI was controversial. The studio's top boss, Patrick Soderlund, was recently promoted to executive chairman of publisher Nexon, and now he's given a presentation in which he shed more light on the company's approach to AI in gaming. "Every company has a plan; most will get it wrong," he said about how game developers will use AI (via GamesRadar). He said there is a "race" going on now to find and implement the best AI-based strategies to help developers, but he said the winners "won't be the first movers." Continue Reading at GameSpot
Call of Duty has featured famously small maps like Shipment before, but Black Ops 7 takes things further for April Fools' Day, adding a hilariously tiny map in a limited-time game mode. Developer Treyarch shared what looked like the layout of a small map on social media, and you can play on it right now. The game mode called "GRWM" (an acronym for "get ready with me") puts you in a free-for-all match with a max of eight players in what appears to be a walk-in closet or changing room, the most intimate setting for a firefight that Call of Duty has conceived. Unsurprisingly, with all players together in such close quarters and very little cover, chaos and carnage follow as soon as the match starts. Matches end once a player reaches a score of 67, a not-so-subtle reference to the 6-7 meme that has arguably gone out of fashion. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Many Crimson Desert players are getting lost in the world of Pywell, doing things like watching NPCs or managing inventories, all while killing bosses and recruiting allies to revive the Greymanes. You need a good outfit to go along with your adventuring in Pearl Abyss' action-adventure RPG, and Redditors are out here posting the drippiest fits around for everyone to consume and copy. There are likely hundreds of pieces of equipment for you to collect in Pywell. From unique swords and legendary shields to iconic chestplates to rare helmets, Crimson Desert players on Reddit are finding and sharing it all. And in the process, they're swagging out the playable characters in idiosyncratic garb and familiar cosplay. Redditor frankiexile posted a Jon Snow cosplay, with their Kliff donning what appears to be an archetypal Night's Watch uniform, replete with an all-black ensemble and a big sword to match. Meanwhile, user Jaycoon335 dressed all three characters--Damiane, Kliff, and Oongka--in more East Asian-inspired outfits with ornate adornments, expensive plating, and gold accents. Elsewhere in the official Crimson Desert subreddit, users DrGreenThumb117 and MrSkits94 shared Kliffs who look like a human boss you'd see roaming around The Lands Between in Elden Ring. Redditor xehparr posted a red-clad Kliff who'd fit perfectly as a Red Mage in a, say, Final Fantasy XIV party. And posters Agreeable-Wall-9781, ovingzz, and Hor-Re-Behedeti put their Kliffs on display, all of which wouldn't look out of place inside the fantasy settings of Skyrim and Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Nothing lasts forever, and that includes Fortnite's "cultural moment," according to one industry expert. Researcher and industry expert Joost van Dreunen said on his blog that Epic's recent round of 1,000+ layoffs are further evidence of the "real-time collapse of American cultural dominance in interactive entertainment." US-based game developers are now facing a "bevy of strategic and economic challenges," and this has contributed to a scenario where Fortnite's star is burning less brightly. "We can observe the signs of this decline when even the largest, most innovative, and most successful entertainment firms begin to struggle. As I see it, Epic Games is more than a casualty of bad timing or a bad quarter. It is the most legible example yet of what happens when structural conditions make decline inevitable," he wrote. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie introduces Fox McCloud and other characters not seen in the 2023 movie, but getting him in the movie was not Nintendo's idea. Not only that, but adding Fox required Nintendo to break its rules about mixing IPs. And when it came to finding a voice actor, it turned out that Glen Powell had already pitched himself, not knowing Illumination and Nintendo were planning to put Fox in the movie. Speaking to Forbes, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto said it was Illumination boss Chris Meledandri who came to him to pitch Fox. It wasn't an immediate yes, though, as Miyamoto pointed out that Nintendo tends to "avoid mixing IPs." However, Miyamoto ultimately agreed to the idea, in part because The Super Mario Galaxy Movie takes place in space and Fox is a character who flies through space. "I felt that I wanted to see that," Miyamoto said of putting Fox in the movie, even if he expected the idea to face an uphill battle with the powers-that-be at Nintendo. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Anyone who plays World of Warcraft knows the real endgame is looking cool, and Blizzard is giving players another way to do just that with a new transmog feature coming in patch 12.0.5. As revealed in the latest 12.0.5 public test realm development notes, players will soon be able to choose how to sheath their one handed weapons using the game's transmog system. Those options include sheathing weapons on the back, hip, or whether to be hidden entirely. For those classes or specializations that dual wield one-handed weapons, each weapon can be transmogged independently, meaning one weapon could be on the back while another could be on the hip. Unfortunately, two-handed weapons aren't currently able to be worn on the hip (likely because they would be dragging through the ground), but they can still be hidden if desired. In the live game, the only way to do this currently is by using certain cloak transmog appearances that hide weapons. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Foolin' around Today is April 1, otherwise known as April Fools Day, aka the day you can't trust anything you see on the Internet. To mark the occasion, we're taking a fond look back at some of the best gaming pranks of all time. Check out our favorites and let us know if we missed any great gags of yesteryear. April Fools' Day approaches every year with a palpable sense of curiosity and dread. For every half-smile we crack at a gaming company's attempt at a prank, there are other times we hold our heads in our hands, wondering what that company was thinking. In this gallery, we've collected some of the best April Fools' efforts from gaming's long history. From a magazine article that sent street fighters a-flutter to a keyboard consisting of a single key, these are the pranks that made us laugh the most. PSA to game companies: These are the kinds of jokes we like. You can also check out our previous roundups for the 2024 and 2025 April Fools' Days, and try to guess just how many companies joked about releasing dating simulators. Spoiler: It was a lot. GameSpot's Breath of the Wild Guardian video Yes, we're starting the list with one of our own pranks. No, we are not biased in the slightest. On April Fools' Day in 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was not even a month old, and players were still discovering all of its hidden secrets. We thought we'd capitalize with this cheeky video on how to mount a Guardian, and then turn its laser weapon on other enemies. If only it were true. IGN's live-action Legend Of Zelda trailer We're not the only publication to pull a Zelda-themed video prank. Some of you may recall when IGN produced a full trailer for a live-action movie adaptation of Nintendo's adventure series, which honestly could have served as a good starting point for a real film. Perhaps the upcoming project directed by Wes Ball will take some pointers. Game Informer's Darth Clark Rounding out a trifecta of April Fools' media mischief is the ever-irreverent Darth Clark, who has terrorized the Game Infarcer section of Game Informer's April issue for years. His presence was particularly felt in 2013, when multiple GI readers wrote to the editorial staff of Clark's column--despite the word "parody" at the bottom of the page. Among Us Horse mode Someone at Among us developer Innersloth was clearly watching old episodes of Mr. Ed in 2022, as the company released a trailer for a mode featuring equine versions of the little spacemen just in time for April Fools'. The four-legged friends did make their way into the game for a limited time, so while some might have been annoyed, you can't look a gift (space) horse in the mouth. Frasier pinball Also in 2022, Stern Pinball created quite a stir with this limited-edition Frasier pinball set to enjoy after eating your tossed salad and scrambled eggs. Unfortunately, the link in the post rolled right into a song by a guy named Rick, which left Frasier fans wanting more. World of Warcraft T.I.N.D.R. Box Sometimes, even Level 70 Death Knights need love. This was the focus of Blizzard's World Of Warcraft T.I.N.D.R Box prank in 2015, which gave players an in-game item that, once given to a garrison member, could help them find their true love. WoW has a long history of April Fools' jokes and great fake patch notes. Final Fantasy 14's fighting game Technically this entry came after April Fools' Day--April 25, to be precise--but the idea of a Final Fantasy XIV fighting game was a tantalizing one. Sadly, Ultimate Fight never came to be, but for one shining moment, we believed. The Yakuza April Fools' RPG video that ended up being what Yakuza 7 actually was While Yakuza 7 was in development, Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio released an April Fools' trailer detailing a shift in the franchise's combat mechanics from a free-flowing action style to a turn-based model. Legend has it that fan reaction was so positive, the studio decided to actually make the change, and Yakuza: Like A Dragon as we know it was born. Overwatch googly eyes Sometimes, the best pranks are the simplest ideas. Blizzard came through with an incredible idea in 2020, and all they had to do was put googly eyes on every playable hero in Overwatch. It's hard not to laugh when a badass like Doomfist is staring at you with those big ol' eyes. For Honor tiny characters Honey, we shrunk the swordsmen! Ubisoft's contribution to the April Fools' festivities in 2020 was a small one, but it made for some big laughs watching ferocious battles play out amongst such tiny combatants. NZXT gaming handheld with keyboard PC maker NZXT's April Fools' joke in 2022 had the slight tinge of prophecy attached to it, as they unveiled the fake H-AND handheld PC. The fictional kit came with a "32-core 64-thread APU," a "tenkeyless pullout keyboard," "plenty of RGB," and more. While the keyboard was certainly silly, portable PCs have since gained popularity, so maybe they were on to something? Razer HyperSense suit Razer took the "metaverse" idea and kicked it into high gear with the HyperSense suit, a "highly advanced, full-body gaming suit" powered by haptic technology. We laughed, then immediately winced thinking about its implementation in Meta's legless Horizon Worlds universe. Corsair 1% keyboard Corsair riffed on its own K100 keyboard with the K1--a single key hardwired into a PC and surrounded by RGB lighting. What's more, the single key on the K1 was the "F" key, so we had to pay respects to the joke. FFXIV Tactics Alexander Sometimes April Fools' jokes are funny, and sometimes they're just cruel. Tactics Alexander, a completely fictional retro turn-based RPG "revealed" by Square Enix in 2017, is one such example of April cruelty. Why can't this be real? Ms. Pac-Man Google Maps Google likes to turn its search engines into a joke during April Fools' time, and sometimes that means the Google Maps platform turns a map of the world into a massive game of Ms. Pac-Man. This is the kind of April Fools' innovation we like; maybe we get a Google Maps Mario Kart course in due time? PlayStation Flow No, we're not talking about the console-exclusive indie hit from Thatgamecompany, we're talking about the 2015 video Sony released of submersible gaming equipment. The goggles for your eyes and the bands for your arms and legs would combine to let you actually swim through underwater moments in your favorite games. As far as elaborate April Fools' Day pranks go, Sony had a winner here. Sanic Collection The "Sanic" meme featuring a child's drawing of Sega's iconic hedgehog reached new heights in 2018, when Sega created actual official merchandise featuring the off-shoot Sonic. The merch was only available for a week, though--"gotta go fast," indeed. Fight Sheng Long in Street Fighter II Finally, we have one of the most iconic pranks in video game industry history: Here's the time Electronic Gaming Monthly convinced a legion of players that Sheng Long--a mistranslation turned into a person--was hidden in Street Fighter II somewhere. A version of the character eventually did debut in Street Fighter 4, and while he was under a different name, Gouken bore a very real resemblance to the old prank version. Dave the Diver is going to look a little better in a few decades Dave the Diver has long been a favorite here in the GameSpot offices, thanks in part to its retro-inspired pixel-art visuals. But could the game be even better with an injection of ultra-realism? The answer is a definite maybe, but you're going to need the patience of a saint to experience the ocean depths in glorious 3D. In 2025, developer Mintrocket announced Dave the Diver: Remastered, and the bad news is that you'll have to wait until 2049 to play it. The good news is that it'll be out before The Elder Scrolls 6, at least. Delta Force replaced humans with kitties, was instantly better Look at you, with your human senses and opposable thumbs, playing your PC games. You lack the hunter's instinct of nature's perfect--and cuddliest--killing machine, and it's no wonder that Delta Force decided to ditch humans for cats. Tactical gameplay with extra fluff, these killer kitties were announced to be the perfect replacements for fallible humans, thanks to their night vision, instincts, and general disdain for human life. The Talos Principle addressed the brainrot generation Thanks to years of doomscrolling and brainrot internet content culture, our brains are more cooked than an egg that has been microwaved for too long. Fortunately, Croteam saw an opportunity and carped that diem by introducing a "streamlined" version of its puzzle game, The Talos Principle. Perfect for anyone who didn't feel like charging up their neurons to help them overcome the game's riddles, this new version of the game replaced walls of text with emoji and added Serious Sam games for background noise. Heck, you could even generate your own puzzles in the game, using a level editor. But because having an idea and actually executing it are two different things, Croteam added a one-button prompt to do all the hard work for you. Cyberpunk 2077 floppy disks looked cool and cumbersome Cyberpunk 2077 has been easy to purchase, but in a truly evil act, CD Projekt Red announced that a floppy disk version was in development--97,619 3.5-inch floppies, to be exact. It would probably take a while to copy all that data over, and the purchase didn't include a storage container for all those neon yellow diskettes. Powerwash Simulator turned to grime In an update that made us feel ill, developer FuturLab announced an update for Powerwash Simulator that sucked all the hygienic joy out of the game. Instead of being able to blast filthy environments with streams of purifying H20, players would instead make these areas worse with tools that sprayed mud and slime everywhere. Please give us a minute; we need to go lie down for a spell. Sega CLC was the '90s take on video game expansions Humanity called it hubris when we built a gaming tower to the heavens, but we called it the next logical step in preserving our nostalgia. Sega's Cartridge Loadable Content allowed us to have all the Sonic games we could ask for on our Sega Genesis, ready to play and completely stable if constructed on a day without any wind pressure whatsoever. Rainbow Six Siege you later Now those are good optics! While there's no all-in-one solution to a scope that works well at any range in Rainbow Six Siege, this little joke suggested the next best thing. Instead of a single scope, how about all of them? A couple of years back, Ubisoft suggested attaching several of them to your weapons, and it sure was a sight to behold.
Following a quick romp in the sewers with some radical turtles, Magic the Gathering is headed back to school with Secrets of Strixhaven. Ahead of the set's April 24 release date, Wizards of the Coast offered GameSpot an exclusive interview with senior game designer Daniel Holt, as well as the full deck list for Witherbloom Pestilence. Helmed by a new commander (Dina, Essence Brewer), Witherbloom Pestilence is a Golgari deck that is primarily concerned with victory through sacrifice and lifegain--the later of which should sound familiar if you're a Dina, Soul Steeper fan. However, this deck is packed with some powerful new cards that make enabling sacrifice easier than ever, as well as plenty of pests, token generators, and strong creatures. Older favorites, like Gyome, Master Chef, make for exciting and unexpected inclusions, while fantastic new cards, like Stensian Sanguinist, are sure to be instant staples. GameSpot: Dina, Soul Steeper is an extremely popular and beloved commander. What challenges did you face when creating Dina, Essence Brewer, and how did you balance implementing her in a new way while retaining the qualities that define her? Holt: Each of the commander preconstructed decks are helmed by a returning legendary character from Strixhaven: School of Mages. When starting these decks and figuring out their design and creative direction, I asked, "What does the uncommon card from the original set look like now as the face of this deck?" It's been a couple years. There was a whole Phyrexian invasion, and these returning students are now much more powerful. Dina has been mostly absent from the spotlight during that time, unlike some of the other students such as Quintorius and Zimone, so this was only going to be her second standalone card--not counting Dina's team-up card with Zimone in March of the Machine. Her previous card cared about gaining life, draining life, and sacrificing creatures to activate her ability. All very Witherbloom things, which set her up perfectly here. I decided to let powering up your other creatures be the way you can start closing out games, as opposed to directly draining life, although there is some of that in the 99 of the deck as well. I did keep the sacrifice and life gain aspects to help synergize with the other Witherbloom cards in the deck. Aside from Dina, what cards do you find most central to the deck? What were some of the first cards you considered when fleshing it out? Holt: Like any good sacrifice deck, you need things to sacrifice. Getting an engine going that outputs lots of tokens is going to give you the fuel to get started. The new card, Ribtruss Roaster, is a sac outlet itself, but if you use Devour or add counters using Dina, he will start releasing a swarm of pests at the end of each of your turns. Ophiomancer is a popular card that gives you a Snake token every turn if you don't already have one. You can get around that restriction every turn if you just sacrifice that token as well! I created a riff on this card with Pest Rescuer in green doing similarly but with Pest tokens. Not only are you getting fodder every turn, but you're gaining life while you're at it! Ways to close out the game are also important for any commander deck, especially those building engines like this one. The tried-and-true options such as Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat were natural inclusions, but new cards like Defiling Daemogoth will drain your opponents based on the life you're gaining along the way. And then when your opponents are all fairly low, you can claim the win with Exsanguinate cast off the new prepare creature card, Stensian Sanguinist. Victory through sacrifice is obviously an extremely popular strategy in Magic. What sets Witherbloom Pestilence apart from previous sacrifice-focused decks? Holt: Players love a good sacrifice engine theme in commander, and I wanted to deliver on that here. Unlike normal sacrifice decks though, this precon also has a lifegain subtheme. Not only are you staying alive to remain in the battle, but the life gains are important to trigger all your Witherbloom effects such as Trudge Garden and Blossoming Bogbeast to create a beatdown army on your opponents. In true Witherbloom fashion, one of the best creatures to sacrifice for value are pest tokens found in the college. Not only are they perfect sac fodder, but they gain you one life upon death, paying you off for all your other cards. Gyome is a fantastic card and I see how it works in this deck, but it still feels a bit out of place comparatively and thematically. Why choose to include him in Witherbloom Pestilence? Holt: With these decks, I wanted to include as many cards flavored to be in Strixhaven as possible so that players felt more immersed right out of the box. This meant using reprints from the original Strixhaven main set and commander decks, as well as assorted cards throughout Magic. I also obviously had the new cards found in this deck and Secrets of Strixhaven main set. Gyome was a perfect fit because he is great on his own, has great flavor for the deck, and does help support the secondary lifegain theme the precon is going for with its new and returning cards that look for lifegain. What past cards do you think will synergize well in Witherbloom Pestilence? Holt: You'll find a lot of past cards already reprinted in the deck that work well with both sacrifice and lifegain themes. Players can take this deck and lean a little more in either direction to build the deck more to their preferred playstyle. In terms of new cards though, players will find the new "Infusion" mechanic works great in any Witherbloom deck with lifegain triggers.
Crimson Desert has loads of systems for you to engage with, like fishing, bounty hunting, armor dying, and cooking. There's even a point where you'll start recruiting NPCs to join your camp, and players are enamored by watching Pywell's many denizens get to work in real time, as they're replete with schedules and everything. Over on the game's official subreddit are three separate posts of three redditors requesting the same construction: a stone statue. After unlocking the Greymane Camp at the start of Chapter 3, you can begin to recruit and dispatch workers to complete activities. This ranges from lumbering and mining to building and guarding, and some redditors have captured the activity in real time. Users lakitu76, TopSeaworthiness1679, and Responsible-Wind1788 shared posts of a time-lapse of workers hammering away at a statue, fiddling with and sticking on pieces of stone as Kliff just stood idly by. Meanwhile, user Vinjulmik posted a screenshot of their entire camp working on a bridge as Kliff watched them sweat. 石像が出来る過程が気になったので最初から最後までひたすら監視してみた🐺#紅の砂漠 #祝400万本 pic.twitter.com/UFs765Cqou — たけ (@otomati1026) April 1, 2026 When you send your recruits to do some work, they actually leave, too. According to users in the game's subreddit, your hires will head to the location you send them to and stay there until the job is finished; once they're gone, they'll be greyed out in your Comrades tab, indicating that they've not yet returned from their duties. One of the most-requested Pokemon is making their debut in Pokemon Go today, and it's not an April Fool's Day prank. Mimikyu has finally come to Pokemon Go, and dedicated players will be able to add them to their lineup starting today. The decision to debut the character on April 1 may be an unusual choice, but Mimikyu's silhouettes are already appearing in the game. Pokemon Go's Spotlight Hour--which starts tonight at 6pm local time--will feature multiple Mimikyu spawns, as well as Pikachu appearances. But if you can't play during that time, Mimikyu will still spawn for players in addition to appearing in random task rewards. Mimikyu won't be the only creature debuting Pokemon Go this month. Silicobra and shiny Toedscool are both slated to arrive as part of April's Pokemon Go events. Players will also have the opportunity to catch some Pokemon that are dressed in wild costumes in Fashion Raid Day, which will take place on April 4. Continue Reading at GameSpot
After four months of Season 7, we're finally moving on to Fortnite OG Season 8, and that means it's also time for a new OG pass to go with it. And we've got great news: Unlike the Season 7 pass, which time-gated half the rewards until a month into the season, the Season 8 OG pass is available in its entirety. The Season 8 OG Pass runs until June 17, which means this season will be more than a month shorter than Season 7 was. Buying the pass for 800 V-Bucks or unlocking it through Fortnite Crew will allow you to instantly claim the Synthesis skin, which is a female remix of Hybrid--and, yes, Synthesis has a lizard style as well, along with several different color options. Gaining account levels from there will allow you to unlock the other 44 items on the pass. As for the other skins on the pass, we've also got fire and ice versions of the pirate Blackheart, and a new version of Luxe wearing body armor. Each skin comes with the usual set of accessories--a pickaxe, a back bling, a weapon wrap, and a glider. For the fiery pirate Pyreheart, we've also got a bass guitar that looks like a ship anchor. There are also several free items on the pass, as usual. This time out, the free stuff includes two gliders, two back blings, a pickaxe, an emote, and a weapon wrap. Scroll on to see every item included with Fortnite's Season 8 OG pass. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now in cinemas, and while it's expected to be a commercial hit, it's not doing so well on the critical front currently. Early reviews for the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie have gone live, and on GameSpot's sister site Metacritic, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie currently holds a "generally unfavorable" metascore of 37. That's even lower than 2022's Mario movie (46) and just two points better than the 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. movie, but there's more to this story than just simple digits. Generally, gaming websites are offering more positive reviews, ranging from a 6/10 at IGN to 8.5/10 at Game Informer. The general consensus is that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie looks great, has plenty of Easter eggs for fans, and its story isn't going to win any Academy Awards. Most importantly, it's clearly designed for its target market of kids while adults can enjoy spotting all the references to decades of Mario history. Film industry and news sites like Variety, The Wrap, and SlashFilm have delivered scathing reviews so far, describing it as hollow and lacking in any cinematic substance. In one brutal review, The Times scored the movie a 0/10 and called it a "torturous" slog. And that's fair, because reviews are opinion pieces after all. The Super Mario Bros. Movie also had plenty of detractors when it first hit cinemas, but it does have a positive user review score of 8.1 and a global box office gross of over $1.2 billion, so those negative reviews didn't dampen the enthusiasm for it. PlayStation has revealed this month's batch of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. All PS Plus members will be able to claim a trio of freebies starting April 7: Lords of the Fallen, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, and Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream. If you haven't claimed March's PlayStation Plus free games yet, make sure to do so before next Tuesday, April 7. Lords of the Fallen sees players embark on a quest as one the legendary Dark Crusaders, warriors sworn to stop a demonic tyrant from plunging the world into darkness. The 2023 game features all the hallmarks of the souls-like genre, from intimidating enemies to risk-and-reward gameplay, but the brutal checkpoint system, confusing level design, and bosses that took forever to kill made it a tough game to recommend to fans of the genre. If you're feeling like taking a trip back to the '90s, you can check out Tomb Raider I-III Remastered. This trilogy of classic Lara Croft adventures contains all expansions and secret levels, as well as an option to switch between the upgraded graphics and the original polygons instantly. A new Challenge Mode was also added, and it's a great option for revisiting the janky games ahead of the upcoming Tomb Raider remake for PC and console. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Mortal Shell 2 developer Cold Symmetry has shown off the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming souls-like, and unsurprisingly, the sequel isn't straying from the foundation established in the original 2020 game. The deep-dive video shows off three playable Shells--Tiel the Acolyte, Eredrim the Venerable, and Proxima the Broodseeker--as they explore the dangerous world around them. Each Shell offers a different approach to combat, with all the action now taking place in the cold and marshy patches of Fallgrim. Unlike the more confined spaces of its predecessor, Mortal Shell 2 goes all in on an open-world environment, which is naturally populated by dark and bloodthirsty monsters. The world is also designed to be deliberately compact, as Cold Symmetry says that it wants to respect a player's time. Just like the first game, the dormant forms of forgotten warriors are scattered throughout the game, and once a Shell has been discovered, it can be awakened and possessed to unlock new abilities. Billed as a standalone sequel, Cold Symmetry says that no familiarity with the first Mortal Shell game is required to play Mortal Shell 2 to its fullest, and Fallgrim will have more than 60 dungeons to explore. Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto has said there are "only so many people" that Nintendo can reach through games, so the company wants to expand its presence in other areas to help draw in more people. This is an approach best exemplified lately with Nintendo's further expansion into the world of film with The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (out now). Speaking to Polygon, Miyamoto said Mario as a character has "always evolved alongside the evolution of digital media," and that's no different today as Nintendo brings him to movies. "As we approach Mario and developing Mario games, I start to feel like there's only so many people that we can reach through Nintendo's systems and consoles. And so now with things like digital streaming and the expanse and the reach of what the technology allows now, I feel like that's a great way to get Mario involved too, and really be able to evolve alongside with digital media," he said. "So going from being able to have a touchpoint with Nintendo only through Nintendo consoles, we want to expand." Continue Reading at GameSpot
Microsoft's upcoming Halo game, Halo: Campaign Evolved, has no in-game shop. Halo Studios community director Brian Jarrard confirmed this on social media. "There is no shop," he wrote. Jarrard said this in response to a fan who was wondering if the fact that Halo: Campaign Evolved will have a special skin for people who buy soda meant there would be an in-game shop. There is no in-game shop, so it seems people will need to drink soda to get the "Fantastic Spartan Armor," which makes Master Chief look like a can of Fanta. That is currently the only known way. While Resident Evil Requiem has had a monopoly on survival-horror talk since it launched, fans of old-school Resident Evil might want to check out Ground Zero. Developer Malformation Games has announced an April 16 release date for the retro-inspired survival horror game, and it'll be launching for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in South Korea, Ground Zero takes place two months after a devastating meteor impact. An elite Korean operative, Seo-Yeon, and her Canadian partner are sent to investigate the city of Busan, and they quickly discover that strange growths have infested the metropolis and hordes of mutant survivors prowl the streets. It's up to players to discover the truth of what really hit Busan by shooting, stabbing, and roundhouse-kicking their way through danger. If you're getting PS1 vibes from Ground Zero, that's by design. A love letter to classic PS1-era survival horror games, Ground Zero features pre-rendered backgrounds and fixed camera angles alongside its nostalgic graphics, as well as puzzles, custom difficulty modifiers, and even tank controls="controls" for an extra layer of nostalgia. Combat is inevitable, but players who can fight back with skill will be rewarded with more Genome Points, which can be traded for powerful gear upgrades. Continue Reading at GameSpot

After launching in 2010--and again in 2016 with the Warmastered Edition for PC, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One--the original Darksiders is riding onto PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles on May 19. Publisher THQ Nordic has announced a new port of the action-RPG, and a few more details on how the PS5 version will differ from the PS4 edition have also been revealed. Physical and digital editions will be available, priced at $30, but there has been no mention of an upgrade path yet for owners of the last-gen version of the Warmastered Edition. On PS5, Darksiders will be presented in a native 4K resolution and at a "stable" 60fps. DualSense and Activities Cards support has been added, and the game now features a photo mode. It's likely that these graphical upgrades will also be present in the Xbox Series X version, and just like the 2016 release, the Warmastered Edition includes all previously released content. The debut game from developer Vigil Games, Darksiders followed the horseman of the apocalypse, War, and his steed Ruin as they battled across the wastelands and demon-infested dungeons of a post-apocalyptic Earth. The game featured a unique art direction led by popular comic book artist Joe Madureira, and the game is best described as a blend of Devil May Cry's action with the exploration of The Legend of Zelda. An official Pokemon Pokopia and Ikea collaboration starts tomorrow--and no, that's not an April Fool's joke--to celebrate Ikea's 20th year in Japan. The event involves both real-world and in-game furniture, though honestly, Pokopia's adorable furniture seems like the vastly superior product here. "Over its 20 years in Japan, Ikea has believed that a home you truly love grows with you. This belief led to a special collaboration between Ikea Japan and Pokémon's new game, Pokemon Pokopia." reads a statement on Ikea Japan's website (via machine translation). "The message we want to convey is that, just like in the Pokemon Pokopia game, everyone can create a home that reflects their own personality in real life." So, how exactly is that happening? Starting tomorrow, April 1, a new, Ikea-themed Developer Island will go live in Pokopia, where players can visit in-game versions of Pokemon-themed rooms that will also be on display in Ikea locations in Japan. Players will need to use the Mysterious Goggles and enter a code (which Nintendo will presumably release tomorrow) to get to the island. As for exactly what lies within the island--and what players can get out of visiting it--we're not entirely sure. We do know it will feature some adorable in-game versions of Ikea furniture. According to Pokemon fansite Serebii, the event will last from April 1-30. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Musician and Game of Thrones actor Ed Sheeran has revealed that he rejected a Fortnite collab, saying he doesn't play the game and didn't want to lend his name to something he doesn't care about. Instead, Sheeran worked with The Pokemon Company on a Pokemon song because he loves Pokemon. "[My record label] asked me to do something for Fortnite. I was like, 'I don't play Fortnite.' I feel like whenever you see my face near any product, I want it to be something I actually do," he told Jackson Warne recently (via ShiinaBR). "It has to be real. So when my record company was like, 'We can put you in Fortnite, I was like, 'I don't really want to do that.' But, I do play Pokemon. We contacted Pokemon and that's why we did the song. I love Pokemon." Continue Reading at GameSpot
A significant part of the Arc Raiders experience is collecting materials, whether it's to craft weapons and parts, or to invest in projects back in Speranza so you can gain additional rewards. That second option is what you'll be doing if you engage with the new High-Gain Antenna project, which sees you completing an antenna by contributing a variety of materials you find during raids. Doing so will earn you rewards, including usable items and Raider Tokens. As with past projects you may have completed already, the High-Gain Antenna project can be found in the Projects section of the Raider tab. This is where you'll contribute items towards the rewards you want as you work on completing the full project. It won't be a straightforward process, and there's even a chance you may have to do a bit of killing along the way if you want to get all that sweet loot back home with you. In the guide below, we'll detail every step of the High-Gain Antenna project and the rewards you'll earn for completing each one. Continue Reading at GameSpot
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Xbox, and as part of its celebrations, Microsoft's gaming brand is collaborating with Fanta to offer a very 2001-coded celebration. Once the code has been scanned, you'll gain access to three Xbox-themed interactive challenges, and completing them will unlock Xbox in-game rewards for the following titles: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 -- Tactical Orange Calling Card and 1-Hour 2XP Level Token Call of Duty: Warzone -- Tactical Orange Calling Card and 1-Hour 2XP Level Token Diablo IV -- Citron Whirl Town Portal Forza Horizon 6 -- 1966 Toyota Sports 800 Fanta Edition (Can be redeemed after the game launches) Halo: Campaign Evolved -- Master Chief Fantastic Spartan Armor (Can be redeemed after the game launches) World of Warcraft -- Fantastical Goblin Wave-shredder Mount and more WoW rewards Several other prizes like Xbox Series S consoles, ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, Xbox wireless controllers, and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions will also be given away, and Fanta is introducing a brand-new special-edition flavor, called Fanta Crimson. Xbox and Fanta's partnership will continue through May with an interactive experience inspired by Diablo's world of Sanctuary, and the prizes for facing off against the Lord of Hatred, Mephisto, include a trip to BlizzCon, Xbox hardware, and downloadable game codes. The last couple of months have been a busy time for Xbox following the departure of Phil Spencer, with his role as Microsoft Gaming CEO being filled by Asha Sharma. Developer Direct and Partner Preview livestreams have already been held, and the annual Xbox Games Showcase will once again be held in June. Mario Kart World's newest update just added a chaotic battle mode and made some changes to a couple of items that already have players celebrating. The Ver. 1.6.0 patch of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch game includes Bob-omb Blast, a battle mode first introduced to the series in Mario Kart: Double Dash for GameCube. It's similar to the standard Balloon Battle mode, where you score points by hitting other players with items, except that players can only use Bob-ombs--and they can carry up to 10 at a time. Expect pandemonium on the battlefield. Bob-omb Blast has come to #MarioKartWorld on #NintendoSwitch2! Use nothing but Bob-ombs to burst the balloons of your rivals, racking up points along the way. Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger has further teased his upcoming Resident Evil movie, saying he's making a movie that's unlike anything he's ever seen. He also addressed how he expects there to be fan blowback for what he's doing with the Resident Evil franchise. "I love the idea of being pitted against a world that is hellbent on annihilating you," Cregger told The New York Times. Production on the third season of HBO's The Last of Us series is now underway, and videos and images from the set have emerged, showing the characters Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and Lev (Kyriana Kratter). Filming is taking place in Vancouver, and with some shoots taking place in public places, people took out their phones and starting filming the production. In this video, we see Abby walking across the top of a building, holding a long rifle, surrounded by production crew. Lev can be seen as well, wielding a bow and arrow. Close-up images of Abby and Lev were also snapped from the set. As in the game, Lev will be depicted in the TV as a 13-year-old transgender boy. Kratter, who is 15 and played breakout character KB in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, is understood to be cisgender. This has prompted discussion and debate. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Featured Image Credit: KitKat Over the weekend, a large shipment of KitKat bars was stolen while in transit to distributors. The truck was carrying 413,793, or 12 tons, of the chocolate bars, and was intercepted in Europe on 26 March. Nestle, KitKat's parent company, confirmed the theft in a statement that reads, "We can confirm that 12T of KitKat products were stolen while in transit between our factory in Central Italy and their destination in Poland. We are working closely with authorities and supply chain partners to investigate. The good news: there are no concerns for consumer safety, and supply is not affected. Thank you." Of course, the internet shortly took hold, and multiple="multiple" companies began to create their own meme versions of the now infamous statement. Among those were some games developers, content creators, and fan pages, so we've rounded up some of the more amusing ones, because why not? Strinova The Strinova--the anime girl team-based FPS that sees cute cartoon girls able to shift into 2D versions of themselves--X account was quick to confirm that, despite her infamous love of confectionary, Michele was not responsible for the heist. "We do NOT think 12 tons of chocolate is something she could handle," the message read. Running With Scissors Running with Scissors, the studio behind the Postal games and upcoming FPS Flesh & Wire, claimed that "some jackasses who hate videogames" raided its Paradise, AZ-based offices. Thankfully, one of its former employees "made proper use of his Second Amendment rights before things got worse." Obviously, the studio is joking. We think. Dead by Daylight Asymmetrical 4v1 multiplayer horror title Dead by Daylight joined in on the meme fun, inserting quips about the game's Fog feature. "We too were surprised to learn of the mysterious Fog reported on the roadway prior to the truck's disappearance," the X post read. "We are currently combing the Realms to see if we can spot this strange addition to The Fog. However, should we manage to locate it, we can't guarantee it will be allowed to escape." Pokemon Although this entry comes from a fan account rather than any official Pokemon channels, it still raised a smile, so it's being included. The Pokemon Daily account simply confirms that Bulbasaur had nothing to do with the KitKat heist. Of course he didn't. Evil Genius Rebellion, the studio that acquired the rights to the Evil Genius franchise in 2006 and subsequently released a sequel in 2021, has created an image of the game's protagonist, Maximilian, standing proudly among palettes of KitKat bars. About 12 tons, at a guess. "Finally, our plan is coming together," the studio wrote on X. Not suspicious at all. Counter-Strike 2 Counter-Strike content creator Thorben has modded a KitKat truck into the game's Overpass map. They're not the only one to do so, as fellow creators DaddySkins and esports collective Team Spirit opted for similar approaches. Payday Not satisfied with sticking to the meme format, heist game Payday's developer filmed a video of character Dallas complete with KitKat bar peeking out from his suit pocket. Shortly after, the X account posted that it will "neither confirm nor deny what was in the truck" alongside a picture of a KitKat wrapped stuffed with cash. World of Warcraft The World of Warcraft X account posted an in-game image edited so that the bundle of items shows an Epic rarity "12T of KitKats" with the accompanying message reading, "This is just a coincidence, we swear..." Sure. I believe them. Exodus Upcoming sci-fi action-adventure RPG Exodus joined in the fun, posting a statement to its X page. "We regret to inform you, KitKats are incredible scarce 40,000 years in the future. Someone forgot to put them in properly sealed containers and they didn't make it to Centauri." We're unsure whether to be on board with the victim blaming approach here, but it's logical at least. Among Us In true Among Us fashion, the social deception game's X account simply posted, "Sabotage." Vindictus: Defying Fate Vindictus: Defying Fate is an action RPG currently in development at Nexon. The game's community manager has crafted an image showing the playable character Karok lugging around a giant KitKat. "No idea where it came from," the accompanying X post reads. Though they have felt the need to give Karok the best chance at getting away with his crimes, adding, "Made by CM for fun; not in-game." Cut the Rope I'd almost forgotten Cut the Rope exists, and I got quite the nostalgia hit when protagonist Om Nom popped up on my social media feed. The X post simply states that the chaotic green monster had nothing to do with the KitKat heist, although with his renowned penchant for candy, it's easy to understand the need to clarify that. Hitman A post on the Hitman X account addressed the game's protagonist, Agent 47. "I hate to interrupt your break between contracts. A shipment of delicious snacks has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. Your target is an unidentified individual with a sweet tooth. For now we are calling them 'The Snacker.' We believe they deserve to have a break--permanently. I'll leave you to prepare." Maybe Agent 47 can solve this confectionary crime once and for all.

ZERO PARADES: For Dead Spies reveals its release date in latest trailer.
Ubisoft is celebrating its 40-year anniversary today, March 28, 2025. Below, we look at how Ubisoft helped to establish the modern game industry, and where it may go from here. In 1986, Zombi was released for the Amstrad CPC computer. The first-person adventure game heavily borrowed from George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, to the point that knowledge of the film’s plot was necessary to complete the game. While it received decent reviews, Zombi’s only remarkable quality is being the debut game of a French developer called, at the time, Ubi Soft. Four decades later, and Ubisoft has shed both the space in its name and its somewhat humble beginnings to be one of the biggest names in the entire video game industry. Ubisoft franchises are some of the best-selling in history, from Assassin’s Creed to Just Dance; the company has dealt with some of the biggest IPs around, from Star Wars to Avatar; its list of subsidiaries spans the globe, from Abu Dhabi to Toronto. Anyone who has played a video game in the past 20 years or so has likely touched an Ubisoft game. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Pokemon Go players who want an alternative to their Go Plus devices may soon have an in-game item that lets them automatically throw Poke Balls and unleash Pokestops while searching for creatures to recruit. PokeMiners (via IGN) uncovered the existence of the new Explorer Gadget during its latest datamining efforts in Pokemon Go. Players could already access automatic Poke Balls and Pokestops with some pricey physical accessories like the Go Plus. This gadget, however, appears to be a fully in-game device without any need for extra peripherals. Assuming the report is accurate, it seems very likely that the new device will be monetized by Pokemon Go's developer. It would make the game a lot easier for casual players--the only real question is how much would fans be willing to pay for this perk? It has yet to be officially announced, so for now we can only speculate as to whether it will be a one-time purchase or if the developer has subscription plans in mind. Continue Reading at GameSpot
In the earliest days of PC gaming, before everything got homogenized with Windows and Mac, the Commodore 64 reigned supreme. It still has a passionate homebrew community making their own original C64 games to this day--and if you're interested in checking out the classic console, its games, or the homebrew scene, you'll want to check out this awesome deal on the THEC64 Mini replica console. The device captures the look of the original C64 and is capable of playing official and homebrew games on moderns TVs. Another major benefit of this hardware is that it supports USB game controllers and outputs at 720p resolution in US and European display modes, making it one of the simplest ways to play Commodore 64 games on modern televisions. Earlier this month, Mega Crit shared the first major update for Slay the Spire 2, which included nerfs and buffs that angered some players enough to review bomb the game. Now, Mega Crit is rolling back some of those changes that led to the pushback. Mega Crit made the announcement on social media and alluded to the review bombing while jokingly telling players they could "lower your Shivs." The message also touted the in-game feedback as "much appreciated." Players can access that feature by hitting F2, and the patch notes indicate that the feedback character limit has been raised from 500 to 8,000. Another patch just dropped on the Beta Branch, with lots of balance adjustments from last week's beta patch! Notably: Prepared is back! So you can lower your Shivs 😅 But seriously, the in-game feedback we've received is much appreciated. Patch notes: https://t.co/gqqIU79ywd — Mega Crit ⚔️ Slay the Spire 2 Out Now! (@MegaCrit) March 27, 2026 After reminding players that nothing is set in stone during the game's beta period, Mega Crit added that the most recent changes to Prepared, Borrowed Time, and Capture Spirit have been rolled back. If you're looking for a more comfortable, ergonomic way to play your Nintendo Switch 2 in handheld mode, this Amazon Spring Sale deal on the Gammeefy JC400 Switch 2 Controller might appeal to you. While the thrid-party grip is usually priced at $47.49, it's down to $40 during Amazon's sale, which runs until March 31 (unless it sells out first). Gammeefy JC400 Switch 2 Controller $40 (was $47.49) See at Amazon While it's wonderful to have the option to play Nintendo Switch 2 in docked, tabletop, or handheld mode, the Joy-Con 2 controllers aren't very ergonomic. That makes third-party products like the Gammeefy JC400 useful, as they make handheld mode play significantly more comfortably. You simply have to slot your Switch 2 into the controller without its Joy-Con 2s attached, and you can start playing. In addition to its ergonomic design, which offers a full-size grip on each side of the controller, the Gammeefy JC400 Switch 2 Controller also features Hall Effect joysticks that are less prone to stick drift. They can also be customized with unique lighting via a dedicated app called KeyLinker, and the controller has a claimed battery life of around 10 hours. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Near the beginning of February, Krafton gave an early-access release to PUBG: Blindspot, a spin-off from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Yang went on to thank players for their support and added that, "The ARC Team will take some time to regroup, and we hope to return with new experiences in the future." Continue Reading at GameSpot
It's been a big week for bad news in gaming, and that included Sony announcing yet another price hike for the PlayStation 5, the second increase in less than a year. When the new PS5 pricing goes into effect on April 2, the base digital edition of the PS5 will have gone up by a whopping $200 since the system arrived in 2020. What's driving up the price and what does it mean for the industry at large? Here's a breakdown of what Sony has said and deeper context from expert sources. Sony's official word Sony's official explanation for the PS5 price hike is that "pressures in the global economic landscape" came together to make it "necessary" to raise prices once more. What the company is saying here is that the so-called "RAMageddon" situation has proven to be so much of an issue that Sony is taking steps to protect its profit margins, and passing along the increased costs to consumers in the form of a price hike. It has been reported that Microsoft might further shake up Xbox Game Pass with new tiers of the service, and now one of them may have been revealed. X user @redphx (via Windows Central) discovered references to something called "Triton," and it is said to be the name of a new tier of Game Pass that would only include first-party games from Xbox Game Studios. This could include games like Doom Eternal, Dishonored 2, Fallout 4, Halo 5, The Elder Scrolls Online, and State of Decay 2, among others. It's unclear if the supposed new Game Pass tier would include all first-party Xbox games or only some specific selection of them. It's also possible Triton is an experiment and isn't planned for release at all. There is not much to go on at this stage, so the possible price, release timing, or other specifics are not available. GameSpot has contacted Microsoft seeking clarification. Continue Reading at GameSpot
There is no denying that the Switch 2 is crushing it. Its sales in the US are pacing 45% ahead of the original Switch over its first four months and most consoles in history. No data exists in a vacuum, though, and Switch 2 sales came in weaker than expected in certain overseas markets for the latest quarter, Nintendo said in February. Now, a report from Bloomberg claimed Nintendo is cutting Switch 2 production by 30% after weaker-than-expected demand during the holidays. At the same time, the reporting said Nintendo remained on track to ship its forecasted 19 million Switch 2 units by the end of March, and in fact, the system is expected to reach the 20 million units that analysts are projecting. Nintendo, like other companies, is known to post intentionally conservative estimates in part so it can generate positive headlines when it exceeds them. As of December 31, Nintendo had sold 17.37 million Switch 2 consoles, so the 19 million forecast seems to be certainly on track. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Table of Contents [hide] Epic is laying off more than 1,000 employees PlayStation is testing out dynamic pricing Epic is laying off more than 1,000 employees This week had a lot of bad news, starting with Epic Games announcing that more than 1,000 people would be impacted by sweeping layoffs. CEO Tim Sweeney framed them as a necessary step to ensure sustainability, and the impact from losing hundreds of seasoned workers will see several Fortnite projects and games shut down or scaled back. Rocket Racing, Ballistic, and Festival Battle Stage will go offline later this year, while Horizon Chase and Horizon Chase Turbo will be removed from digital stores starting June 1. This comes in the wake of Epic hiking the price of Fortnite's in-game currency V-Bucks as player engagement has begun to dip as of late. PlayStation is testing out dynamic pricing Rumors of Sony testing out dynamic pricing system have been circulating for years now, but it looks like it might be real after all. World of Warcraft has been around for 22 years, and a new music video in collaboration with singer Aurora will have players reliving every memory. The song, titled A Place to Call Home, is accompanied by an animated music video crafted by Paris-based animation studio Brunch in partnership with Blizzard. It starts by showing a journey that will be familiar to longtime night elf players--the trek of a lone night elf from Teldrassil to the Eastern Kingdoms, requiring players to travel through the dangerous Wetlands before reaching the dwarven capital of Ironforge. From there the trailer picks up the pace, as the night elf adventurer is rescued by a dwarf hunter and later teams up with a human paladin for a trek into WoW's iconic Deadmines dungeon. After defeating the Defias Brotherhood, the music video goes full montage, as the adventuring party travels through WoW's various expansions--through the Dark Portal into Outland to face Illidan, across the sea to Northrend to vanquish the Lich King, a showdown with Deathwing from Cataclysm, and more. For those who have dreamt of a return to the world of classic EverQuest, but just don't have the time (or the number of friends) needed to progress in the infamously grindy MMORPG, the newly announced EverQuest Legends is offering a solution. Everquest Legends is a new spin on the genre-defining MMO from 1999, one that will keep the game's original visuals, music, and world but has been "designed from the ground up" to appeal to casual players, according to developer Daybreak Games. Rather than massive, 40-man raids, EverQuest Legends is instead tailored for solo play, while still allowing for groups of four to eight players. Taking on EverQuest's challenges solo will be possible due to the sheer amount of power Daybreak will let players accumulate. Unlike in original EverQuest, EverQuest Legends will let players select three different classes at a time, who will benefit from the stats, spells, and abilities of each. Players will start by selecting their race as normal, but have access to two classes from the get-go. A third class becomes available at level 10. Continue Reading at GameSpot

Disney's top gaming boss, the veteran Sean Shoptaw, has outlined the company's vision for games amid what he described as a "massive disruption" in the gaming market today. Part of Disney's investments and efforts in gaming today are in Fortnite, but it goes a lot further than that. Speaking at SXSW, Shoptaw--Disney's Executive Vice President, Global Games & Digital Entertainment--said Disney's ambition for games overall is that they can stand alongside Disney's film, TV, and theme park businesses in terms of drawing people to Disney's worlds. Disney does not want to make "box-checky" games, as Shoptaw described them. He said Disney made a key strategic change to its gaming business about a decade ago with the aim of shifting away from licensed tie-in games that re-told the stories of Disney's movies to making games that told original stories within Disney's worlds. It's been less than a month since Pokopia hit shelves, yet that seems to be all the time the charming Pokemon spin-off needed to take the world--and my Instagram feed--by storm. The second season of Netflix's animated Devil May Cry series is almost here, and ahead of its May 12 launch, a new trailer for the series has gone live. Building off of last season's cliffhanger, the teaser wastes no time in giving Devil May Cry fans what they've been waiting for--and a little more!--so if you haven't seen the first season yet, consider this your spoiler warning. Unsurprisingly, Vergil is making his proper debut in Devil May Cry 2: Season 2, and he's not exactly brimming with brotherly love for his twin sibling, Dante. Rocking a look that references his classic Devil May Cry 4 outfit, Vergil even has time to reference one of his famous quotes from Devil May Cry 5, remarking on just how cruel fate can be. Devil May Cry's first season set up the oncoming storm that is Vergil, while also putting a fresh twist on the lore of the game. Ending with a very unsubtle parallel to the 2003 Second Gulf War, Dante found himself trapped inside the demon realm by the invading forces of the US army. Don't expect him to remain in a stasis tube for too long, as showrunner Adi Shankar teased that Dante will start to level up and evolve into the legendary devil-hunter throughout the second season. Xbox's newly installed CEO Asha Sharma was the driving force behind Microsoft's decision to quietly kill off the "This is an Xbox" campaign, according to a recent report by The Information. All evidence of the campaign--save for a few YouTube videos--was scrubbed from the internet shortly after Sharma took the helm at Xbox earlier this month. According to "someone with direct knowledge of the move," Sharma was the one who made the decision to end the campaign and remove it from Xbox's various domains and social media accounts. While Xbox is still pushing its "Play Anywhere" functionality, Sharma is also focused on rehabilitating Xbox's console sales--Xbox hasn't outperformed Sony and Nintendo consoles since 2008, after all. During her first town hall meeting with the team at Xbox's Redmond, Washington HQ, Sharma said she wanted Xbox to be a "reference console"--that is to say, the ideal console against which every other console is judged. Hello Kitty: Island Adventure is about to get a lot more metropolitan. Sunblink and Sanrio have officially announced the release date for the cozy adventure game's next DLC, City Town, which sends players to a "a rainbow metropolis teeming with creativity and mystery." The press release noted that players should expect a "mysterious cameo guest" as well. Yet City Town adds a lot more than just a few friendly faces. Over 30 hours of content and 90 quests, some of which take you above and beneath the city, are headed to the game as well. A new Payday has been announced for virtual reality platforms. As the first new game in the series since the disappointing launch of Payday 3, Payday: Aces High will certainly face a high level of scrutiny at launch. Payday: Aces High, much like the PC and console games it's based on, is a four-player co-op heist game where players work together to steal from the rich. The game gets its title because the crew is made up of the Ace of Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, and Spades, each of whom players can choose to play as and equip with different guns and gadgets like a grappling hook. Players complete missions to earn cash, which can then be spent on skill and gear upgrades. Starbreeze Entertainment CEO Adolf Kristjansson argues that Payday: Aces High is "not just an adaptation" but a "true Payday game built from the ground up for this medium," in the press release announcing it. From the trailer, the gameplay of Payday: Aces High certainly looks similar to the PC and console games rather than a brief VR experience based on a known IP. Continue Reading at GameSpot
Handheld gaming PCs have become more common since the launch of the Steam Deck, with significant price differences across brands. Due to rising memory and storage costs driven by increased demand from AI and data-center companies, AyaNeo has suspended preorders and early-bird sales of its upcoming Next 2 handheld to address these escalating expenses. While current preorders are unaffected and will be fulfilled, AyaNeo explained in a blog post that "significant cost pressure" had forced it to rethink its launch plans. "After the Chinese New Year, when we communicated with our suppliers again to confirm the latest storage procurement prices, we found that storage prices had increased to several times higher than before the holiday," AyaNeo explained. "Under such circumstances, the overall cost of the product has become far higher than our current selling price. Therefore, after careful consideration, we have decided to suspend the preorders of Next 2." AyaNeo stated it had anticipated minimal or negative profit on each Next 2 unit and expected storage prices to eventually stabilize. However, the company did not anticipate component costs reaching record highs. "At present, the total cost of the product has far exceeded our selling price, even approaching twice the price we originally set. Under such circumstances, continuing to sell this product is no longer sustainable," AyaNeo wrote. The company confirmed it will continue to support backers and has prepared sufficient spare parts for after-sales support. Continue Reading at GameSpot
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been rated PG in the UK, which doesn't seem like a particularly big deal… until you look at the reasons behind the rating. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) gave the film a PG rating for "mild violence" and "threat," but if you take a peek at the "theme" tab on the BBFC's webpage for the film, more details are revealed, with the BBFC citing "infrequent very mild upsetting scenes" that feature "flashbacks to the separation of a girl and her younger sister." Potential spoilers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie below Now, fans are wondering if the flashback scene in question might depict Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Princess Rosalina (Brie Larson) becoming separated at a young age, which would confirm a fan theory that started back when Super Mario Galaxy launched for the Wii in 2007. Similarities between Peach and Rosalina immediately stuck out--they're both blonde and blue-eyed, both human, both princesses, and are seemingly similar in age--which led some players to theorize that the two are sisters. Nintendo has never confirmed their familial relationship, but it seems likely The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will clarify the details of their family line. Continue Reading at GameSpot
